Why so Serious

Why So Serious?

Release Year : 2006

Description

This is Sirius’s first official album since 2008, which consists of a collection of Sirius’s earliest renowned repertoires, but there are tracks that only appeared on this album and have never been performed before.

The key person that gave birth to this album is the newly joined member at the time – Mr Frank Lee (nicknamed as Teacher Xiao Ha). In 2008, all the members in Sirius were students apart from Frank. Although the knowledge and experiences in album recording were limited, the members spent a full year to complete the album with Frank’s help and his previous experiences in the band.

The album artwork, design and packaging were solely completed by Yen-Ming. Interestingly, this album was produced in the ‘typhoon year’ with approximately 60 typhoons whereby more than half of them were strong typhoons. Despite the typhoons, Yen-Ming was dedicated to his work as he was driving between HsinChu and TamSui during that year.

At that time, we were quite young in terms of music, recording technology, administration etc. This album faithfully records the process of exploration and the growth of this group of people, which is of great significance to the times.

This album has a great remembrance value which is the only album of Sirius with the bass player, Lin Qi-Yi. He stepped down after a car accident which caused severe brain damage to him.

Spanish Dance No. 5 Andaluza was composed by Enrique Granados from Spain. Frank is a fan of Larry Alder, a harmonica master, who has played this piece. Sirius decided to include this piece in the album as a welcome gift to Frank.

Twelfth street rag – 2-3, a piece of Ragtime style has played by a lot of well-known harmonica groups. One of them is the pioneer group of the harmonica ensemble, Harmonicats, which played this piece in 1958. Sirius interpreted the piece in their own way, which became one of the famous repertoires during the time.
